In his speech at the opening ceremony, Weng Zhuo, President of the Guangdong Paper Association, recalled with emotion: "Twenty years ago, the first exhibition was only 3,000 square meters; today, it has become an indispensable trade and technology center for the global paper industry chain." The "8th Paper Industry Exchange Meeting of 10 Provinces (Areas) in China" was held at the same time as the exhibition.

Zhang Cuimei, Vice President and Secretary General of Guangdong Paper Industry Association, delivered a keynote speech entitled "Overview of the Development of Paper Industry in Guangdong Province".

Taking the operation of the paper-making industry as the starting point, Vice President Zhang Cuimei interpreted the development status and relevant policies of the paper-making industry in Guangdong Province in 2024, and put forward suggestions on "optimizing the raw material structure", "strengthening innovation" and "AI empowering industry development" around the problems of limited raw materials, impact of imported base paper and homogeneous competition in the industry.

In 2024, the output of paper and cardboard in Guangdong Province reached 26.4833 million tons, an increase of 8.1% year-on-year, accounting for 16.7% of the national total output, ranking second in the country. The output structure is mainly listed as follows: packaging paper, accounting for 79%, cultural paper and household paper accounting for 11% and 5% respectively. The industry concentration has further increased, and 8 companies have reached a production capacity of more than 1 million tons. The main economic indicators are doing well, and operating income, operating costs and profits have all rebounded year-on-year.

Wang Xiaohui, professor and director of the National Key Laboratory of Advanced Paper-making and Paper-based Materials of South China University of Technology, delivered a keynote speech on "Sustainable Paper-based Functional Materials".

Professor Wang Xiaohui pointed out that the paper-making industry is currently the most benefits of scale biomass industry, and pulp and paper materials are irreplaceable as typical bio-based materials. As the world's largest paper-making country, China still faces challenges such as relying mainly on imports for high-quality fiber raw materials, high-end paper-making equipment, key components and industrial software, and industrial transformation is imminent.

Professor Wang Xiaohui's laboratory has made many breakthroughs in the field of paper-based materials. Its current research and development goal is to carry out original innovative research on biomass coating chemicals, form independent technology, and develop commercially viable paper-based material alternatives.

Mr. Guo Yihao explained in detail the price situation, supply side and demand side of the pulp industry chain. From a macro perspective, he believes that although the optimism of trade negotiations has driven the rebound of risky assets, the average tariff of the United States on Chinese goods is still at a high level of 40% to 50%, and we should not have too high expectations for the degree of improvement of economic entities. The medium-term downward trend of demand has not changed, and there is still growth pressure in the second half of the year.

In terms of unilateral strategies, he suggested that if the market rises to the upper range, you can consider placing short orders; in terms of monthly spread strategies, there are no clear opportunities at the moment, so it is recommended to wait and see; in terms of pin-wide spread strategies, it is recommended to narrow the pin-wide spreads of futures.

General Manager Ma Bo pointed out that the paper-making industry faces challenges such as dual energy consumption control policies, carbon tariff pressure, high energy costs, fluctuations in electricity supply and demand, and transformation bottlenecks.
